Cupp Family Boat Trip
May 27, 2005
Barry, Karen and their kids are about to go on their first big boat adventure. They are heading down river from Golconda, Illinois to New Orleans, Louisiana. They will hit the water this Sunday, May 29th.
They bought the boat “Frankly My Dear” late last year. So, needless to say, they are novice boaters. Barry says, “we are going to learn on the way.”
They will be traveling the rivers South to Mobile, Alabama. Barry expects this leg to last 13 days. Then they should hit the Gulf of Mexico and boat into New Orleans. That should take another 3 days. Barring disasters should take about 16 days total.
May 31, 2005

The Cupps are in South Paris, Tennessee. They have just passed Big Daddy's Bar, Grill & Marina (location pictured above). They plan to camp at Saltillo, TN tonight and be in Grand Harbor tomorrow.
June 1, 2005

The Cupps are in Grand Harbor on Pickwick Lake. Karen says that Grand harbor is like Heaven compared to Saltillo, Tennessee, where they stayed last night. She is convinced that Saltillo was the inspiration for the movie deliverance. "This here river doesn't go to Atri, you done took a wrong turn."
June 6, 2005
The Cupps are in Demopolis, Alabama today. They are continuing to head South towards Bobby's Fish Camp. Everyone is doing well. They are anchoring out in the water today, which I assume means they're sleeping on the boat. These sailors and their sea talk...I don't have my old salt to land lubber dictionary handy.
June 7, 2005

The Cupps are in Coffeeville, Alabama today. At the Coffeeville Lock and Dam. They are continuing to travel down the Tom Bigby Waterway. Karen says they drove in at night which was very exciting...maybe a little scary, just a littttttle bit.
June 8, 2005

The Cupps have made it to the Gulf of Mexico. They are in Mobile Bay at the Dog River Marina.
June 10, 2005

Tropical Storm Arlene has picked up speed in the southern Gulf of Mexico. Hurricane watches and tropical storm warnings are in effect along the central Gulf Coast. In an attempt to not end up on an uncharted desert isle with some goof named Gilligan, the Cupp's have docked in Mobile, Alabama. They are going to ride out the storm there before they move on to New Orleans.
June 13, 2005

The journey continues... the Cupps are now back on the way again. Arlene didn't amount to much after all. As of today, around 4 PM, they were 15 miles south of St. Louis Bay, near Lake Shore Mississippi in the Gulf. They were experiencing 1 foot waves, so the water was a little choppy. They plan to stay at an island marina tonight.
June 14, 2005

News from the front... they have arrived!!! Karen called today around 4 pm to let us know that they have made it to New Orleans. They will stay down there for a little while to celebrate and relax for a while. The boat will get a well deserved rest too. Brandon will take the boat trailer to them and tow the boat back to Golconda.
Thus ends the tale of "The Little Boat That Could." Oh...almost forgot...and they lived happily ever after (all good stories should end with that).

Barry's Cross Country Bike Trip
June 6, 2003
Barry Cupp, General Manager of Midwest Cash, is currently on a bike trip that will take him half-way across the United States.
This journey has not been without peril. Already the bus company that took him to his starting point already lost his bike and luggage.
Fortunately, they found his bike, but his clothes are somewhere in Arizona.
But don't worry about Barry, a quick stop at the store and he had all the supplies he needed to start his journey.
We will continue to track Barry's trip as he takes his long journey back home.
June 16, 2003
Barry was on the Virgina border on this day. The word for the day is "rain." Barry is finding out how hard it is to pedal through floods on this day.
Barry found himself 15 miles from civilization with nothing but rain and a washed out road in front of him.
Barry spent this night in a ghost town in Meadowview, VA. Not having a hotel to stay in, he slept in the doorway of an old school with a tarp on top of him.
June 17,2003
Enough with the sleeping outside in the rain. Barry spent this night in a motel in Breaks, Virgina. He has a great view out his window of the Grand Canyon of the South. He looks out his motel room and sees the river 600 feet below carving this little Grand Canyon.
Barry is continuing on the Transamerican Trail despite the hardships like helmet-hair, being covered with coal dust and his still wrinkled fingers from his riding in flood producing rains.
June 21,2003
Last heard Barry was in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.
June 24,2003
Barry is now in Owensboro, Kentucky. Which is about 150 miles away! He is expected to arrive in Carterville at 7:00 PM on Wednesday June 25.
June 25,2003
Barry is now in...(drum roll)...Carterville, Illinois.
Congratulations and welcome home Barry from all of us at Midwest Cash. Don't worry about a thing, Barry, we saved all your work for you...
you'll find it on your desk (although the papers kind of obscure the desk). Welcome back!
